This tutorial will demonstrate how to enable ping response in Windows Server 2019. Windows Firewall in Server 2019 drops this traffic by default so we need to change this setting.
Type ‘firewall’ in the search bar in Windows.
Click on Windows Defender Firewall.
In the new window that pops up, click on ‘Advanced settings’ located on the left side.
A new window will open titled ‘Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security’. Click on ‘Inbound Rules’, then right-click ‘File and Printer Sharing (Echo Request – ICMPv4-In)’. Select ‘Enable rule’.
We configured our server with an IP address of 192.168.1.32. As you can see in the example below, the first attempt failed. The second attempt to ping 192.168.1.32 succeeds after enabling inbound ICMP requests.
